On January 4th 2010, the Opening of the Burj Dubai (now named Burj Khalifa) Skyscraper in Dubai took place. The tower was officially opened by Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed and an estimated two billion people around the world watched live TV coverage of the ceremony. After 4 years of constructing, the tower reaches 828m and is well known for being the tallest man made sculpture ever built.

Inside the building, it hosts the first ever Armani hotel on the lower floors, 37 spacious floors of office space, a restaurant, residence for over 900 people and even an observation desk at the top of the building in which public can travel to the 124th floor of the tower and view the Dubai skyline.

Broadcast RF were of course on hand to supply their services for this very prestigious event. Three wireless camera systems were on hand to unveil the grand opening ceremony on the 154th floor of this mammoth structure. These three RF systems were received locally and fibred down to the OB. An aerial camera was also linked from a helicopter to the OB, with spectacular live aerial shots of the Dubai skyline and the fabulous firework display.

Over 6,000 members of the public attended the opening ceremony to watch the Burj Khalifa officially open with a dramatic blaze of 10,000 fireworks, multicoloured lights lighting the skyscraper, music effects and water displays. Multiple screens were linked around the building to reveal the official height that had been kept secret since construction started.

The ceremony on the 154th floor was possibly the highest ever transmission of wireless camera systems at 800m from ground level.
