After having been moved out of India for security reasons this year South Africa hosted the second edition of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament (IPL). This started on the 18th April 2009 in Cape Town with last year’s winners the Rajasthan Royals losing to the Bangalore Royal Challengers and the Mumbai Indians beating the Chennai Super Kings.

Held over 37 days, the 59 matches were played across venues in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, East London, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth, Kimberley and Bloemfontein.

Broadcast RF supplied Zoom Communications with a total of six Gigawave HD RF systems.  There were a total of four hand held and two Flycam HD RF systems working at various venues in South Africa.  Broadcast RF’s lightweight Thomson camera back was used on the LDK8000’s with HD Clip-On transmitters mounted via the battery plate.

The Twenty20 league featured the biggest names in cricket including Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pieterson and the Final between the Deccan Chargers and the Bangalore Royal Challengers was held in Johannesburg on Sunday 24th May 2009 with the winners of the tournament being the Deccan Chargers.
