A total of twelve wireless RF camera systems were again supplied by Broadcast RF this year for the four day coverage of the annual Cheltenham Festival which hosted twenty six races.

The biggest highlight of course was the Totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup Steeple Chase, and what a race. This year Kauto Star regained his Gold Cup crown after losing it last year to his stable mate Denman, who this year came in second. Kauto Star is the first ever horse in history to win the Gold Cup for a second time although not in consecutive years. Ruby Walsh was the jockey of the festival riding a total of seven winners during the festival which is an all time record.
The Festival started off on Tuesday 10th March 2009 with the William Hill Supreme Novices Hurdle. Also held on the Tuesday was The Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle, won by Katchit in 2008 this year’s winner trained by Nicky Henderson was the 22-1 outsider Punjabi.
Seven races took place on the Wednesday but the race of the day was the Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Chase won by Master Minded for the second year running, this race is considered by many as one of the most exciting races of the year.
Thursday was Ladies day and this year’s award for 'The Outstanding Contribution made by a Lady to Jump Racing' was presented to jockey Nina Carberry. As usual there were also awards for the Best Dressed Lady, the Lady with the Best Accessories and the Lady with the Best Hat as well as the races of the day including The Ladbrokes World Hurdle - the long distance hurdlers contest and The Ryanair Chase.
With Broadcast RF having both the expertise and resources to provide every kind of RF camera at the festival, from standard digital radio cameras, radio cameras with return video, tracking vehicles, blimp links and point to point links. Over half of the TV coverage was supplied by these systems for all four days of this prestigious event which we are extremely pleased with.
