Singapore Marathon 2010

The Singapore Marathon is an annual international marathon race which is held on the first Sunday of December in the city of Singapore. This year’s race had a new look, with different starting points for the full marathon, half marathon and 10k races. Starting near Ngee Ann City, the full marathon runners started their 42.195km race at 05:00, 30 minutes earlier than in previous years.

The Louis Vuitton Trophy Dubai is the fourth in a scheduled series of regattas that form the Louis Vuitton Trophy. It is held between the 13th and the 28th November 2010, and team New Zealand looked favourites to succeed after placing second in series 1 in France, as well as winning series 3 in Italy and series 2 in New Zealand.

The London Royal Opera House has teamed up with 3D cinema technology provider RealD to produce 3D opera and ballet features to be shown in RealD equipped cinemas. Recent 3D films shown in RealD include Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.

Pope Benedict XVI travelled to Malta this April 2010, the visit to the Catholic nation’s capital city Valetta by the pontiff of 5 years was planned to commemorate the shipwreck of St Paul on the Mediterranean island in 60 AD.

UK General Elections 2010

The 2010 General Elections saw Britain have its first inconclusive result since 1974, with a voter turnout of 65.1%. The Conservatives won 36% of the vote, Labour 29% and the Lib Dems 23%, however following Gordon Browns resignation from the Labour party David Cameron and Nick Clegg have formed a coalition Government for the first time since 1945.

Burj Dubai Opening

On January 4th 2010, the Opening of the Burj Dubai (now named Burj Khalifa) Skyscraper in Dubai took place. The tower was officially opened by Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed and an estimated two billion people around the world watched live TV coverage of the ceremony. After 4 years of constructing, the tower reaches 828m and is well known for being the tallest man made sculpture ever built.
